## Overview
Tussionex Pennkinetic (hydrocodone polistirex and chlorpheniramine polistirex) is a prescription medication that combines an opioid cough suppressant and an antihistamine. It is formulated for extended-release.
## Primary Indications
* Relief of cough and symptoms of upper respiratory allergies.
## Adult Dosing
* **12 years and older:** 5 mL to 10 mL every 12 hours.
* Maximum: 10 mL every 12 hours.
## Pediatric Dosing
* **6 years to less than 12 years:** 5 mL every 12 hours.
* Maximum: 5 mL every 12 hours.

## Dose Adjustments

## Contraindications

* **MAO Inhibitors:** Potentiated and unpredictable antagonism of barbiturates, and CNS depressants. Severe and prolonged hypotension or hypertension.
* **Anticholinergic Agents:** Additive anticholinergic effects (e.g., constipation, urinary retention, blurred vision).
* **CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir):** May increase hydrocodone plasma concentrations.
## Monitoring
* Assess for effectiveness in cough suppression.
* Monitor for signs of CNS depression (sedation, dizziness).
* Monitor for respiratory rate and depth.
* Monitor for constipation and bowel function.
* Assess for anticholinergic side effects.
