## Tus**qd**
### Overview
Tus**qd** is an expectorant.
### Primary Indications
* Adjunct therapy to increase the output of respiratory tract fluid in conditions associated with a dry, non-productive cough.
### Adult Dosing
* **Oral:** 200 mg to 400 mg every 4 hours as needed. Maximum daily dose is 2400 mg.
### Pediatric Dosing
* **Oral:**
* 6 to under 12 years: 100 mg every 4 hours as needed. Maximum daily dose is 1200 mg.
* 2 to under 6 years: 50 mg to 100 mg every 4 hours as needed. Maximum daily dose is 600 mg.
* Under 2 years: Safety and efficacy have not been established. Use is not recommended.
### Dose Adjustments
* No dose adjustment recommendations for renal or hepatic impairment are established. Caution is advised in patients with severe renal or hepatic dysfunction.
### Contraindications
* None established.
### Adverse Effects
* Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain.
* Central Nervous System: Dizziness, headache.
* Other: Rash, hypersensitivity reactions.

* No significant drug interactions have been reported.
### Monitoring
* Monitor for effectiveness (e.g., change in cough characteristics, sputum production).
* Monitor for adverse effects, particularly gastrointestinal upset and signs of hypersensitivity.
### Clinical Pearls
* Tus**qd** is often formulated in combination products with cough suppressants or decongestants. Ensure the chosen product contains only the desired ingredient(s).
* Adequate hydration is important to help loosen mucus. Encourage increased fluid intake.
