# TUSSO-QD
## Overview
TUSSO-QD is a combination product containing guaifenesin and dextromethorphan. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that helps loosen mucus in the airways. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that acts on the cough center in the brain.
## Primary Indications
* Relief of occasional cough.
* Thinning of mucus to facilitate expectoration.
## Adult Dosing
* **Guaifenesin/Dextromethorphan:** 10 mL orally every 4 hours as needed.
* **Maximum Dose:** Consult product labeling; typically, do not exceed 6 doses in 24 hours.
## Pediatric Dosing
* **Children 6 to under 12 years of age:** 5 mL orally every 4 hours as needed.
* **Children under 6 years of age:** Safety and efficacy not established. Consult product labeling or prescriber.
## Dose Adjustments
No specific dose adjustments are typically required for renal or hepatic impairment, but caution is advised.
## Contraindications
* Hypersensitivity to guaifenesin or dextromethorphan.
* Use within 14 days of MAOI therapy.
* Patients with active asthma or chronic bronchitis (use with caution, may inhibit cough reflex).
## Adverse Effects
* **Common:** Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness.
* **Less Common:** Rash, confusion, constipation.
* **Rare:** Respiratory depression (especially with overdose or co-administration of other CNS depressants).
## Key Drug Interactions
* **MAOIs:** Risk of hypertensive crisis.
* **SSRIs, SNRIs, Tricyclic Antidepressants:** Risk of serotonin syndrome.
* **CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids):** Increased risk of additive CNS depression and respiratory depression.
* **CYP2D6 Inhibitors:** May increase dextromethorphan levels.
## Monitoring
* Monitor for cough relief and expectoration.
* Assess for adverse effects, particularly drowsiness, dizziness, and respiratory status.
## Clinical Pearls
* TUSSO-QD is intended for short-term use. If cough persists for more than 7 days, recurs, or is accompanied by fever, rash, or persistent headache, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider.
* Ensure adequate hydration to aid in mucus thinning.
* Avoid concurrent use of other medications containing guaifenesin or dextromethorphan.
