# Miconazole Vaginal Pessary
## Overview
Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent.
## Primary Indications
Treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis (yeast infection).
## Adult Dosing
A single vaginal pessary containing 1200 mg miconazole nitrate is available. Insert one pessary intravaginally at bedtime.
## Pediatric Dosing
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.
## Dose Adjustments
No dose adjustment is needed for renal or hepatic impairment.
## Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to miconazole or any component of the formulation.
## Adverse Effects
Common adverse effects include vaginal burning, itching, and irritation. Pelvic pain and headache have also been reported.
## Key Drug Interactions
Miconazole can inhibit CYP3A4 and CYP2C9. Concomitant use with warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding. Avoid concurrent use with other vaginal products.
## Monitoring
Monitor for signs and symptoms of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Assess for vaginal and vulvar irritation or burning.
