No specific dose adjustments are typically required for renal or hepatic impairment.
## Contraindications
* Abdominal pain of unknown cause.
* Intestinal obstruction.
* Nausea or vomiting.
* Hypersensitivity to liquid paraffin.
* Children under 6 years of age should generally not receive it without medical advice due to the risk of aspiration and adverse effects.
## Adverse Effects

* Diarrhea.
* Anal leakage (especially with higher doses).
* Lipoid pneumonia (rare, associated with chronic aspiration).
* Malabsorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) with chronic use.
## Key Drug Interactions

* **Fat-Soluble Vitamins:** May decrease absorption. Administer vitamins separately, at least 2 hours apart from liquid paraffin.
* **Docusate Sodium:** May enhance the absorption of mineral oil.
## Monitoring
* Bowel movement frequency and consistency.
* Signs of abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting.
* For chronic use, monitor for signs of vitamin deficiency.
## Clinical Pearls
* Administer at bedtime to minimize daytime leakage.
* Avoid use in patients with dysphagia or a risk of aspiration.
* Limit duration of use to avoid dependence and malabsorption.
* Separate administration from fat-soluble vitamin supplements.
