# Isoxsuprine hydrochloride
## Overview
Isoxsuprine hydrochloride is a vasodilator that acts primarily on vascular smooth muscle, causing vasodilation. It is also a beta-adrenergic agonist, which may contribute to its vasodilatory effects.
## Primary Indications
* Treatment of peripheral vascular disease (e.g., intermittent claudication, Buerger's disease).
* Adjunctive therapy in cerebrovascular insufficiency.
## Adult Dosing
The typical adult dose is 10-20 mg orally three to four times daily.
Maximum dose: 20 mg every 4 hours, not to exceed 80 mg in 24 hours.
## Pediatric Dosing
There is no established pediatric dose for isoxsuprine hydrochloride. Use is generally not recommended in children.
## Dose Adjustments
No specific dose adjustments are routinely recommended for hepatic or renal impairment. However, caution and monitoring are advised in these populations due to potential accumulation.
## Contraindications
* Hypersensitivity to isoxsuprine hydrochloride.
* Do not administer intravenously.
## Adverse Effects

* May be taken with or without food.
