# Hepamerz (l-Ornithine l-Aspartate)
## Overview
Hepamerz is a combination of the amino acids l-ornithine and l-aspartate. It is believed to work by promoting the detoxification of ammonia in the liver and brain.
## Primary Indications
* Treatment of hyperammonemia associated with liver diseases, such as cirrhosis.
## Adult Dosing
* **Intravenous (IV):** Typically administered as an infusion. A common starting dose is 10 grams (containing 5g l-ornithine and 5g l-aspartate) infused over 30 minutes. Doses can be increased up to 30 grams per day, divided into 3 infusions, depending on patient response and ammonia levels.
